OUTFIT OF THE DAY: HEATHER GRAHAM IN BRAZIL

______________________________________________________________________________________

Not usually a fan of Heather Graham, but I couldn't resist posting this photo of her promoting the Hangover III in Brazil. The black and grey belted romper is polished and sexy, beautifully cut and minimally accessorized, and offset by a healthy and fantastic-looking 43-year-old Graham. Not sure who it's by as I can't find another photo of it anywhere, but will update when I do.

ELYSIUM: IN THEATRES AUGUST 9

Can't wait for this. District 9 was fantastic. With Damon, the sequel should be even better, hopefully more nuanced and character-driven than the average sci-fi action flick.

THE LAST OF US SOUNDTRACK: GUSTAVO SANTAOLALLA

_______________________________________________________________________________________

I'm not usually much of a video-game girl, but the television ads for The Last of Us caught my eye. The game is cinematic in structure and cinematography, the previews evoking a small-town zombie apocalyptic narrative reminiscent of any one of the recent zombie/vampire Hollywood box-office hits.

The soundtrack was what really struck me, though. Haunting and out of place for a video game, the soundtrack was melancholic and suspenseful, ebbing and flowing from intensity to soft strains of nostalgia. The soundtrack is the work of Argentinean musician, film composer, and producer Gustavo Santaolalla, who won two back-to-back Academy Awards for Best Original Score in 2006 and 2007, for Brokeback Mountain and Babel, respectively.

MEET SLOANE STEPHENS

________________________________________________________________________________________

Sloane Stephens is making headlines as a rising star in American tennis. Ranked No. 17 by the Women's Tennis Association, Sloane recently created waves by defeating longtime tennis champ Serena Williams (who angrily broke her racket as a result). Stephens was born in Florida in 1993 to Sybil Smith - a former swimmer at Boston University and the first African-American female to be named First Team All-American in Division I history - and John Stephens, a professional American football player. Her younger brother, Shawn, plays baseball and football at Notre Dame.
Obviously athleticism is in her bloodlines. However, Stephens is also a fashion hybrid, having been featured in Vogue, Teen Vogue, ESPN The Magazine, USA Today, and Sports Illustrated. After her recent clash with the always interesting Serena Williams, Stephens has cemented her reputation as one to watch both on the courts and off.
